From the frozen, rust-belt borderlands where Niagara Falls collides with Buffalo, New York, MENTAL ANGUISH deliver a grinding, no-bullshit assault that feels like the city itself decided to throw a tantrum in 4/4 blast beats. This is not some trendy, polished “extreme” outfit chasing clout. This is veteran grindcore forged in the same DIY trenches that birthed the original 80s/90s scene.
Comprised of underground lifers Chris Hull (vocals), Carl Pace (guitar), Russ Martin (bass), and Jim Santillo (drums), the band carries the DNA of Immortal Terror, Grotesque Infection, Eternal Torment, Arsenic Disposal, and Anthropic straight into the modern era. These guys didn’t just discover grindcore; they helped define its ugly American strain decades ago, and now they’re back to remind everyone what the fuck it’s supposed to sound like.
Their self-titled 17 track debut full-length on CDN Records is 100% pure, uncut Western New York grind. Short, vicious songs. Zero filler. Blast beats that hit like sledgehammers on sheet metal, riffs that chew through your skull, and vocals that sound like a man gargling broken glass while screaming about the end of the world. It’s thick, dark, and mean. Equal parts old-school grind and deathgrind menace, recorded raw and real at Watchmen Studios with zero interest in sounding “nice.”
If your idea of a good time is getting your face caved in by distortion, feedback, and unrelenting speed, then crank this disc loud enough to rattle the windows and wake the neighbors. MENTAL ANGUISH don’t ask permission. They don’t follow trends. They just grind.
