ThrashBack Records is pleased to announce that on March 25, 2022 we will be releasing a CD collection from the Phoenix, AZ based Thrash Metal quintet SOOTHSAYER titled “We Came For Killing: 1987-1989”.
Formed in 1986, SOOTHSAYER would release three demos, “We Came For Killing” in 1987, “One Foot In The Grave” in 1988 and “Alpha Omega” in 1989. During this period the band would build a strong fan base in the burgeoning Phoenix scene sharing the club stages with both high profile local and touring acts such as Megadeth, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Fates Warning, Flotsam & Jetsam, Sacred Reich, Atrophy and Tynator. Unfortunately a record deal would elude SOOTHSAYER, and they would disband in 1990.
Musically, SOOTHSAYER straddles the line of Speed Metal (or, perhaps, U.S. Power Metal) and Thrash, with the vocals reminiscent of the early demo era Mark Osegueda.
In June of 2021 Damon, the brother of vocalist Steve Parsons (who passed away in March of 2019), contacted us about the possibility of releasing the SOOTHSAYER recordings. He wished to not only preserve the legacy of his brother, but also the music of a band that meant so much to the scene in which the band was a fixture of. We obliged.
“We Came For Killing: 1987-1989” compiles all of the bands studio recordings with tape transfers and remastering from the best available surviving sources handled by former guitarist David Cornwall. Includes a 12-page booklet with archival photo’s and fliers, and a new interview with guitarist George Bryan conducted by Paul Caravasi of Soulgrinder Zine.
